3the tv drama is based on the awardwinning novel by lan xiaolong which shares the same title
4lan focuses on a lesswell known part of chinese military history during the war of resistance against japanese aggression in 1942
5in that year 100000 strong soldiers were sent to myanmar to support british allied force operation
6we call them chinese expeditionary force
7one of their aims was to protect the yunnanmyanmar roadit＇s also called burma road

served as a war supply route to
china after china’s ports fell

9the chinese troops won several key battles but later had to make a strategic withdrawal

13it would be easy to say that the drama is popular because of the action and fighting it includes but this is only part of the story
14some people say it＇s black humorbut those who can really understand it will say although the drama tells the most banal activities they become intense
15it helps create an authentic atmosphere of that time and can serve as a memory and tribute to everyone who has died in war
16lan xiaolong wants us to know that we should never have an inordinte desire for ease and comfort
17if stars could only been seen at one night in thousands of years men would believe in paradise
