I Analysis of the text
1 The genre a play and a speech
2 The theme a play called Robin Hood and a speech on how to improve your spoken Enflish
3 Writer’s intention
To introduce students to English folklore Robin Hood and arouse students’ interest in English with the form of English play acting Train students to practice using should and had better to think of ways to improve their English

II Anallysis of students
1 Known The students of Grade 8 have basic knowledge about play since they have learned a play in 8A Unit 6 They learned about the gist of public speaking as the reading part of this unit which talks about how to be a good public speaker
2 Unknown Most of them are not clear about the story of Robin Hood and have no knowledge of word linking Many of them don’t know how to act well in a play

1 Obtain information about English week
2 Learn about the notice newspaper report modal verbs should and had better and word linking

Ss can develop listening skills and make a speech according to the key points given

Ss know about English folklores and take part in English festical activities

Step 1 Leadin (2mins)
Introduce a video from the last Nanshan English festival

Step 2 Prelistening (2mins)
Show a picture of the play the story behind our play
Q Look at the picture and guess what they are going to do
Purpose Ss can know about the background knowledge of the play Robin Hood and predict the content of the play
Step 3 Whilelistening (3+4+2mins)
1 Know your characters Listen and find out who they are
Ss listen to the audio and finish the exercise A on page 118
Purpose grasp the key information and know about the characters of the play
2 Look at the script It got some coffee stains Listen to the audio again to complete the stained script
Putpose to develop listening skills of extracting the key information
3 Ss be divided into groups of four and choose their characters and read their lines
The lines are based on p118
Purpose review the listening material and prepare for acting
Step 4 Postlistening (7mins)
Act out the play in 4person groups and vote for the best team to represent our class
